Last year, skincare became self-care because of the pandemic. Many business industries were affected, and the beauty industry was no exception. Some of our beauty routines were gone because of the effects of 2020. We were forced to do our own hair cut, do our nails and be our own dermatologist. We were able to develop some strategies to do our home beauty culture.
Thankfully, nowadays, some of our favourite salons and beauty shops have opened. We can now go to beauty clinics to do our skincare services.
For this year, we are hopeful for the latest products and skin treatments that we can get even if most of the time, we will still be staying at home.
So here are the top 5 skincare trends that we expect to happen this 2021.
Hand care products
Handwashing has become seriously important, and hand sanitiser and hand soap have become more popular. These products may not be the most glamorous but have become a necessity since the rise of the pandemic. Beauty brands who were known for their make- up products and others have started entering the space. Not only do they have nice scents and stunning packaging, but these products also will become more suitable for the skin.
These kinds of hand sanitiser have started to become a hit since consumers preferred these innovations than the previous hand care products due to how drying and clinical smelling they are. Hand creams were also developed to give protection and at the same time, make the skin softer.
We are required to use face coverings such as masks as one way to follow safety protocols to prevent spreading the Covid -19 virus. Even now we are now post-lockdown, wearing a face mask and face shield are normalised. Because of this, some people develop acne breakouts due to wearing face masks. Some have skin irritation and acquired pimples. Although these skin problems are frustrating, we always have to follow the wearing of face masks rule.
More and more brands have become aware of this and made a solution by developing products such as face spray and face mask with zinc oxide to help alleviate skin irritation and acne. With these products, you no longer have to worry about your skin breaking out because of wearing facemasks.
Cosmetic procedures to have face ready for Zoom
Because of the pandemic, most people have started working at home. It has been months since we have conducted meetings and even school lessons through video calls. Many experience fatigues but most people are concerned about their zoom face. They start looking for ways to look beautiful, even without make-up.
There have been many requests for eye area treatments, like reducing the appearance of eye bags. In the coming months, we will be expecting more products and treatments like fractional laser resurfacing that will help us to look stunning, even without make-up while doing our zoom meetings.
Blue light protection
It started last year when almost everything we do has turned digital. We all know the damaging effects of blue light on our skin. This is why more and more companies are discovering effective ingredients that can help us fight these effects. Ingredients like turmeric, algae, licochalcone are proven to be helpful in cooling the skin, and these are effective in combating blue light.
Instead of using animal-derived ingredients, it would be a good idea to opt for plant-based skincare products as these are known to be effective in maintaining the good health of your skin. They can help fight signs of skin aging and are effective in cell-repair. This year, we can expect that more products will be plant-based.
